10 Things You HAVE to Have in Your Home

Your home is your sanctuary. There are items that every home should have. No matter what budget you are on everything here is Here is a list of the most important things our home always needs.

1. Cleaning products

Admit it – your home looks great when it’s clean and sparkling. So buy the most necessary detergents – for the bathroom, the kitchen, the floor, the windows, etc.

2. Napkins

Something that adds touch to your every meal. They not only look nice but are also helpful. Try real cloth napkins because you can wash them. You can even make them yourself in every colour and material you’d like.

3. Soft coverings

One of the most important places in your house is the bedroom and more specifically – the bed. Your body needs to rest and what’s better than sleeping in a comfortable bed. Choose soft covering that will help you relax and make you feel cosy.

4. Lighting

Many people don’t put enough lighting in their house. You can completely transform your home with the right light. You can make it brighter when you need to work and a little dimmer when you’re relaxing.

5. Art

Here you have no limits. You can pick any type of painting and hang it in your home. This gives it an artsy and sophisticated look. Also it’s something you can always enjoy. Instead of buying paintings, you can hang personal photos.

6. Candles

They can relax you, put you in a romantic or intimate mode. One of the best accessories you can place in your home. You can light them up at dinner or use them on the counter for a homey feel.

7. Plant/flowers

Having plants in your house makes it feel fresh and alive. If you don’t have time to take care of them, use flowers from the local store. They are so beautiful and smell amazing. So add a vase with flowers on the counter or the side table.

8. Colour

A white kitchen? Seems classy but you can play around and add colour. Buy a red refrigerator that you can match with the another element in the room. You can use this tip in any room of the house and make that section the focal point.

9. Curtains

Curtains are so crucial for every room. You can use them for decoration in the kitchen or to avoid bright sunlight in the living room.

10. A bookshelf

Having a place to keep your books is always convenient. It allows you to go through your favourite literature again and again. And also add new books to your collection.

Of course every person is different and maybe you find other things important to your home. In conclusion, just make your home feel like home.

The Perfect Lighting For Every Room

1. Entries, foyers, hallways

These are important spots for guest. This is the first space that they see when they come for a visit. The entries have to be with great lighting for safety reasons. There might be stairs, coat hangers and so on. So it’s best for foyers and entries to be well lit up. You can put lights on the stairs, or a big chandelier on the ceiling. Just make sure it’s bright enough.

2. Living room

Since this is an area where a lot of people gather, you don’t want it to be dark. You can put lamps on the side tables, that can help you when you read. They can be in different shades to complement your furniture. If you want to accent a painting, use recessed lighting. That will give such a sophisticated vibe to your room.

3. Dining room

This is probably the easiest room to decorate because the centre is obviously the table. You have two choices: a pendant in centre or two pendants in each end of the table (if your table is rectangular). You can also put up a chandelier. It can be the focal point in the room.

4. Kitchen

Of course in the kitchen you need to have excellent lighting. This is where you cut vegetables, cook food and sometimes eat that food. Focus on the areas that you use the most – the bar, the island and the sink. This is where you’ll need the most light. Don’t put lamps in the kitchen because you have to be careful around them. It is best if you think about lighting when you’re designing the kitchen.

5. The bathroom

Side lights on the mirror are probably the best choice here. For the morning that is. Or for when you apply make-up. But for the night aim for dim lighting that will calm you down.

6. The bedroom

This room doesn’t need bright light. Since this is the room used for sleeping, opt for dim relaxing lights. You can place lamps on the night stand so there will be direct light pointing to your book. Many people don’t just sleep in the bedroom – they have a desk, a TV. Make sure that you illuminate all of these areas. For instance, place a lamp on one side of the bureau.

Lighting is crucial when it comes to the appearance of a house. If you can’t decide, switch places and see how it looks. Just remember, decorate however you think you’ll enjoy your home the most.

Build Floating Shelves Yourself

Hey! I was scrolling through blogs and pictures and got the idea of floating shelves! I don’t have such at home, but I think soon this won’t be the case. I started looking for inspiration and suddenly found this video:

I admire this woman! She made the shelves FROM SCRATCH! Watch and get inspired.🙂

When You Need To Hire a Handyman

It is hard to fine time to fix whatever is broken around the house! Tim and I had a discussion about our first blog post and the topic. I asked him what mistakes people make in maintenance and repair tasks. And this is what he said (the title of the post).

First off, consider whether you actually can perform such a task? Yes, most of us can replace a lightbulb but I can not re-wire the whole house. You best know your skills and what you are capable of – if you aren’t comfortable doing a job, just call a professional.

Before you start a renovation did you check if you’re supplied with the proper tools? When doing such a job, it is crucial to have the exact instrument. Actually, 50% of the people call a handyman because of a lack of tools.

Consider your safety – if a job is too dangerous, don’t risk your own safety. It is easy to apply wallpaper or even repaint a room – you do not need professional help for these types of tasks. But make no mistake – for bigger electrical jobs it is better to leave it to the experts.

Doing jobs you’ve never done before but you’re sure you’ll complete them without an issue? If the project goes wrong, repairing it would be twice as expensive!

Do you have the time? What if you are capable of completing such an improvement but you can’t afford to spend much time doing it? If you can work only on the weekends, it would take you much more time to finish the task.

Hope this helped, guys! See you soon.
